Electrician Test

When looking to fill an electrician position, it's important to make sure that the candidate has the skills necessary to do the job. An electrician skills test can help ensure that the candidate is a good fit for the position.

  • What is an electrician skills test?

When you are recruiting for an electrician, you want to be sure that they are experienced and appropriately qualified, but there are some skills that you cannot find on a resume or in an application form - and that is where the electrician skills test can help.

The test is designed to be used as part of the recruitment process to assess candidates on the skills, attributes and competencies that are linked with success in the role. It tests every applicant in the same way, asking the same questions that are crafted to allow each candidate to demonstrate their abilities and aptitudes.

The electrician skills test can be taken online by a large number of candidates, and it is a simple way to narrow down a large pool of applicants to focus on the ones that have what it takes to be successful as an electrician in your company.

  • Eliminate bias.

All your candidates take the assessments on a level playing field. Only their results determine whether they get shortlisted.

  • What are the benefits of using the electrician skills test for pre-screening?

For recruitment teams hiring for an electrician, there will be certain prerequisites that candidates will need to match to be considered. These are usually things like relevant experience and specific qualifications, whether that is basic education and an apprenticeship, a diploma or NVQ, or even a degree in something like Electrical Technology.

However, when dozens of candidates with similar education and experience apply, it can be overwhelming to try and find those candidates that will be successful in the role - the ones that have the right skills and aptitude, the ones who can put theory into practice, and the ones who will match the company culture.

Some of the skills required by an electrician are quite obvious - knowledge of installing, maintaining, modifying and repairing electrical systems in homes and businesses, as well as being able to plan and create diagrams.

An electrician also needs to be able to ensure that systems are safe and meet national safety guidelines. However, a successful electrician needs to be able to demonstrate teamwork and project management skills, be able to communicate so they can provide advice and have an excellent eye for detail (and manual dexterity, too).

The electrician skills test is the best way to assess a candidate for all the job-related aptitudes and knowledge required for success.

The electrician skills test is a straightforward assessment that is designed to be used early in the application process. It can be administered to a large number of candidates, and because each person can take it online and in their own time, the results are indicative of the person’s ability to actually perform as an electrician.

The data provided is both objective and unbiased, because every candidate has the same opportunity to demonstrate their level of skill, so the recruitment team can use this data to choose the highest-performing candidates to take to the interview stage.

How our test measures electrician skills

Test questions are designed to assess industry-specific technical skills, soft skills, aptitude and suitable personality dimensions. Our data-driven approach provides results that enable you to determine how suited is a candidate for the role.

Depending on the type of question, the format of the test may vary. Multiple-choice questions are used to measure aptitude, technical skills and soft skills, while agreement on a Likert scale assesses suitable personality dimensions. Skills tests ensure that candidates are being evaluated in a precise and impartial manner, their results demonstrating the true knowledge and potential of each test taker.

The characteristics required to be an electrician were determined by looking at the skills and abilities listed in the US Department of Labor’s O*NET database, which collects data from professionals in various fields.

O*NET is the largest database of its kind, providing detailed information about occupations and the requirements for each role.

Our team of I/O psychologists and psychometrics worked closely with subject-matter experts to create an extensive question bank that can be used to test multiple candidates. We also conducted rigorous field testing with a representative sample of candidates to ensure that the questions were reliable and valid.

Test scores are averaged together to give an overall score. The average score is compared to other candidates' scores to ensure there is no bias toward certain candidates.

Our electrician test is constantly updated and optimized to ensure the best experience and results.
